GED Exam


The GED exam is offered monthly at Hamden High School. It consists of tests in the following areas: language arts/writing, language arts/reading, math, science, and social studies.

Registration deadline is at least 3 weeks prior to exam, but space is extremely limited at the Hamden site. Individuals are scheduled on a first come-first serve choice of test date and/or location. You will be requested to select a second and third choice.

Registration
You must register in person at an approved test registration center. Hamden Adult Education at Hamden High School is approved. You should register at least three weeks in advance of the test date. There are a limited number of spaces given out on a "first come first serve" basis. A government issued photo I.D. is required at registration.


Test Dates
The GED exam is offered monthly on three consecutive evenings.  You must attend all three evenings to complete the exam.

Arrive at 6:00 P.M. with a photo I.D. Exam begins promptly at 6:15. 

Eligibility: Any Connecticut resident who does not have a high school diploma.  

 

  •  Applicants must be 17 years of age or older, no longer enrolled in school.
  •  Applicants 17 years of age must also submit a copy of the school withdrawal form signed by parent or guardian.
  •  Applicants 17 and 18 years of age must submit documentation that they have been withdrawn from day school for at least six months or that their 9th grade class has graduated.
  •  All applicants must have a picture ID.

Test Fees:

  •  For veterans and applicants under the age of 21: no fee.
  •  For applicants 21 years of age and older: $13 fee. To retake or reapply for the test: $13 fee.

GED Test Accomodations: Accommodations for the GED test are available for qualified individuals with a disability. For more information and to make appropriate arrangements contact: Ajit Gopalakrishnan, Chief Examiner, Connecticut State Department of Education at (860) 807-2110.

GED Prep classes are available at the M. L. Keefe Community Center for those individuals interested in preparing for the GED exam who work or live in Hamden. Residents of other communities should contact their community's adult education program.
